(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club announced late today that quarterback Jarious Jackson has agreed to terms on a new contract with the team. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not released.
“Jarious demonstrated last year that he has tremendous ability and all the qualities of a true leader,” said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono. “Jarious brings out the very best in the people around him and I’m pleased to have him back.”
Jackson who originally joined the Lions in 2004 was eligible to become a free agent on February 15th. The former Notre Dame-grad enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2007 eventually becoming the Leos starting quarterback midway through the season after injuries sidelined pivots Dave Dickenson and Buck Pierce.
“I’m thrilled to be returning to the Lions”, said Jackson. “It was a challenging process getting this done, but I am excited about the opportunity to go into battle with those guys again and hopefully win another championship for our fans.”
Jarious was 9-2 as the Lions starting quarterback during the 2007 regular season throwing for 2,553 yards and 18 TD’s on 167 completions. Jackson’s heroics last season included a 47-yard TD pass to Paris Jackson to preserve a 45-45 overtime shootout in Calgary in August as well as a 33-yard TD toss to Geroy Simon to pull out a 37-34 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the game’s final moments last September.
