The BC Lions Football Club announced today that import running back Jamal Robertson has signed with the team. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

“Jamal is a proven running back in our league and I believe he helps fill a significant need we have at that position,” said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono.

Spending the 2008 and 2009 seasons with the Toronto Argonauts, Robertson recorded 326 career carries for 1,676 yards and 15 TD’s. He also racked up an additional 753 yards and a TD on 86 receptions.

“I’m very excited to be joining the Lions,” said Robertson from his off-season home in Georgia. “They were tough to play against the past two seasons and I’m glad to be going out west to be part of a team that’s making some big off-season moves.”

Robertson originally signed with the Calgary Stampeders in 2001 and was part of the Stamps’ practice roster before heading south in 2002 to join the San Francisco 49’ers. Stops with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons preceded a late season signing with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2007. Robertson was traded to the Double Blue just prior to training camp in 2008.
