Lions land free agent defensive lineman Eric Taylor

The BC Lions Football Club announced today that import defensive lineman Eric Taylor has signed a contract with the team through the 2013 season.

“Eric is a big, physical player who will add toughness and experience to a very good young defence,” said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono. “He will definitely strengthen our defensive front and add flexibility to our scheme.”

Taylor began his CFL career in 2008 as a member of the Edmonton Eskimos, appearing in 19 games over two seasons for the Green and Gold. In 2010, he was traded to the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for non-import receivers Andre Talbot and Brad Smith.

Last season as a member of the Double Blue, the Memphis grad appeared in 13 regular season games, racking up 17 defensive tackles and three sacks.

“I’m excited to be joining the Lions,” said Taylor. “Playing alongside veterans Brent Johnson, Aaron Hunt and Keron Williams is an outstanding opportunity for me and I know I can help the club accomplish its ultimate goal of winning a championship.”
