Training Camp Report: Day 16

BCLions.com Staff

The Lions hit the field on Monday afternoon for a single padded practice marking the third-to-last on-field session of 2013 Training Camp.

With the regular season kicking off in just over a week preceded by this Friday’s pre-season home game versus the Edmonton Eskimos, head coach Mike Benevides is mixing it up during practice with every second period dedicated to special teams.

Despite the second consecutive day of ominous skies, stormy weather held off in time to get a full and productive session in.

Quarterbacks Travis Lulay and Thomas DeMarco continue to have a notable camp, notching four TDs between the two of them during the red zone no-huddle period which featured completions to Emmanuel Arceneaux and Korey Williams as well as a nifty scramble by the agile DeMarco.

With productivity continuing throughout the afternoon, Lulay looked sharp in skelly as Andrew Harris hauled in a sweet wheel route while first-year receiver Elvis Akpla got cheers from teammates with a diving effort of his own. Newcomer Joey Elliott was also effective, with deep completions to Akeem Foster and Ernest Jackson.

Responding for the defence, veteran cornerback Dante Marsh had a nice pass break-up while fellow vet Ryan Phillips chipped in with a strip on Stu Foord.  As he has been all camp, lineman Khreem Smith was a force to be reckoned with up front.

“We need two more days of intense focus to take full advantage of this opportunity to improve.” – head coach Mike Benevides’ address to the team post-practice
