The BC Lions Football Club officially announced today that free agent linebacker Jamall Johnson has agreed to a contract with the team.

Johnson returns to the Lions after spending the last five seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The Louisiana native was originally a member of the Leos from 2005 through 2008, winning a Grey Cup championship with the club in 2006.

“Jamall is a veteran linebacker who gives us both depth and experience at that position,” said VP of football operations and GM Wally Buono. “He’s a great addition to our club and I know our defensive staff is pleased to have him.”

Johnson will enter his 10th CFL season in 2014 and has appeared in 122 regular season games (33 with the Lions) recording 486 career tackles with 102 more coming on special teams. He was a two-time East Division All-Star during his time in Hamilton.

“I’m excited to have a player of Jamall’s experience and quality return to our club,” said head coach Mike Benevides. “I had the pleasure of being his position coach when he was with us previously and I know he’s got some very good football left in him. He’ll definetly bring some thump.”
