Quotables: Down time at Training Camp

For players and coaches, training camp is a three-week grind. But just like every other profession, football requires a little down time and Kamloops has no shortage of off-field scenery and activities to enjoy. We talked with Travis Lulay, Ryan Phillips, Rolly Lumbala and newcomer Jas Dhillon about what they like to do once the practices, team meetings and film study have shut down for the day.

“The nice thing about Kamloops is there are lots of outdoor activities you can do. I remember a couple years ago, John Beck and I went fishing on the river. It was nice. I also caught a few more trout than he did.”- Travis Lulay

“I like to read. This year I will bring up Mind Gym, a good book on sports psychology. Hopefully my Pittsburgh Penguins will be in the Stanley Cup Final and I will have some hockey to watch at night as well.”- Rolly Lumbala

“For me it’s mainly about reading the playbook and perfecting the craft, but everybody needs time to get away at various points. I like to watch movies. It’s also a great time of the year for sports with the basketball and hockey playoffs so that also gives you something to enjoy at night.”- Jas Dhillon.

“It’s always nice to get away from campus and go to Earl’s or Shark Club. There’s a group of us veterans that like to hang out and Jovan Olifoye always needs to eat. It’s good to get out and socialize, watch tv and have some good laughs.”- Ryan Phillips
