Nephew Of Former Grizzlies Guard Joins Lions

New BC Lions defensive end Kache Palacio made it to Kamloops in time for afternoon practice on Wednesday. The former Washington State Cougar will look to launch his pro sports career in the same province as his uncle, Milt Palacio, who played his first NBA season with the Vancouver Grizzlies in 1999-2000. It’s yet another reminder of how small the pro sports world can be. “My uncle loved his time in Vancouver,” said Palacio while walking to team dinner after practice. “When I was younger I watched him with the Grizzlies and then when I got to Washington State he was just down the road coaching at Idaho.”

While Uncle Milt was more of a journeyman- he suited up for six NBA teams in seven seasons before playing six more in Europe- Kache hopes to turn heads for the final week in Kamloops in hopes of landing a spot on the roster when camp breaks next week. Palacio most recently attended a mini-camp with the Los Angeles Rams, where he caught the attention of Lions defensive line coach Robin Ross. “I talked to him a little bit and we just connected,” said Palacio. “He kind of preaches the same ideas as the Rams coaches. Now it’s about picking up the CFL game.”untitled

Like his Uncle,  Palacio went un-drafted and also brings a fair bit of upside to the already impressive crop of defensive linemen in camp. His 16 career sacks places him tenth all-time among Cougar players. He is also excited and feels he can fit in right away.

“Being up here now and meeting the other staff, it’s all good people.”
