Current and Past Lions Enjoy Links At Alumni Golf Tournament

On Monday, the Lions Den heads to Northview Golf and Country Club as the organization stages its annual BC Lions Alumni golf Tournament. The sold out event, co-presented by Bosa Properties and The Quorum Group, includes current Lions Travis Lulay, Richie Leone and Marco Iannuzzi. Notable past Leos include Lui Passaglia, Nick Hebeler, Gerald Roper and soon-to-be Wall of Fame inductee Cory Mantyka.

For the current players, this is a chance to get away from the practice field in the midst of a long season, plus earn some bragging rights to take into the next golf outing.

“Everybody has their good days but I think on my bad days I am still better than everybody else,” boasted Leone.

As for who makes the biggest fool of themselves? The kicker wisely opted to plead the fifth. “No comment. We’re all out there for good fun. I think most golfers that don’t play much don’t like coming out with us because we get competitive, but we’re also out there to have fun. It’s cool to get out with some alumni, I met Lui for the first time last year.”

As for Leone’s claims on being the club’s best golfer, we decided to get a second opinion from a guy who has played a few of these tournaments in the past.

“Is he? I think we’re only as good as our last round so ask him how mine and his last rounds were,” Lulay chuckled. Jennings might have something to say about it too, so will Adam Bighill. “I appreciate his confidence, but you’re only as good as your last round.”

Being one of the club’s elder statesmen, Lulay lives for the opportunity to play 18 holes and hear stories from those who strapped on the black and orange before him.

“This is a fun event. It’s fun to catch up with the old guys that stood in our shoes before us. The BC Lions were here long before us and will be here long after us so it’s cool to be part of that historical family.”

In addition, the TSN 1040 crew of Matt Sekeres and Blake Price will be on hand broadcasting from 10:00AM to 2:00PM.

The Texas Scramble Shotgun format begins at 1:00PM sharp and will be followed by a banquet dinner. You can bet the stories and laughs will be fast and furious.
