Purifoy rumbles to POW honours

First-year BC Lions defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy has a name you won’t soon forget and one that is starting to become front-of-mind among opposing teams as he earns CFL Player of the Week honours following his performance in the club’s dominating 38-18 win over Montreal last Thursday.

Purifoy, playing the incredibly difficult ‘nickel’ position which sees him having to both cover talented inside receivers while also serving as a key run-stopping hybrid linebacker, notched five defensive tackles, two for a loss and a knockdown in the win.

His biggest contribution of the night however, came on the first play of the fourth quarter with the Leos clinging to a narrow 23-18 lead when the University of Florida-grad scooped up a Corbin Louks fumble and rumbled 47 yards for his first CFL touchdown.

The scoop-and-score set off a 15-point outburst by the Lions in the final frame as they cruised to an eventual 38-18 win on the night.

Purifoy and his teammates are back on the practice field today as the club begins preparations for their game on Saturday night versus the Hamilton Tiger-Cats presented by TELUS. The first 5,000 fans through the gates on Saturday will receive an Adam Bighill bobblehead.
