The BC Lions Football Club announced today that running back Jamal Robertson has signed a contract extension through the 2012 season.
Jamal appeared in all 18 regular season games as well as the West Semi-Final as the Lions feature running back in 2010. His 154 carries for 953 yards and 6.2-yard average led the club on the ground and his 54 receptions for 387 yards were fourth-best on the Lions. His 1,340 yards from scrimmage were a team-high and placed him ninth league-wide.
“Jamal demonstrated last season that he can be an impact player for our offence and I am pleased to have him coming back.” said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono.
Jamal burst out of the gate with a 10-carry, 168-yard performance in Week 1 versus Edmonton which also included a 61-yard TD romp. He rolled up another 140 yards and a TD on 18 carries versus Calgary on September 25th. Last season he had 26 rushes of 10 or more yards which included 10 of 20+ yards. Of the Lions’ 97 rushing first downs Jamal accounted for 41 of them. He gained 75 yards on the ground in just 11 carries at Saskatchewan in the West Semi-Final and added 5 receptions for 37 yards.
“I had the time of my life in Vancouver last year and I believe the team Wally is putting together for 2011 is one that will have a great shot at winning a championship,” said Robertson. “We have great mix of youth and experience and I can’t think of a better place to win a title than at home in front of our fans.”
