Even though training camp is still a few months away, the BC Lions continue to be active as part of the club's community endeavors in elementary schools located throughout British Columbia.

Now entering its second season, the Energy Champions program presented by FortisBC is designed specifically for children in kindergarten through grade seven and emphasizes the importance of environmental responsibility while being an 'Energy Champion'.  In 2010, the initiative visited 75 elementary schools throughout the lower mainland, Vancouver Island, the Interior and northern BC, inspiring more than 25,000 students to play an active role in reducing their environmental footprint.

Lions players including safeties Jason Arakgi and J.R. LaRose, along with fullback Rolly Lumbala and offensive linemen Dean Valli, Andrew Jones, Jon Hameister-Ries and Justin Sorensen have become familiar faces in schools throughout the lower mainland and have also hit the road to travel to communities such as Victoria, Trail, Castlegar, Prince George, Quesnel, Salmon Arm and Kamloops.

By the time the program makes its final visit later this spring, the Leos will have visited no fewer than 75 elementary schools throughout BC as part of the Energy Champions program.
