Rick Ball
Play-by-Play
Entering his seventh year as the Lions' play-by-play announcer on TEAM Radio, this lifelong BC Lions fan landed his dream job. In 2003, Ball moved from CFAX Victoria to TEAM 1040, where he ultimately hosted his own afternoon talk show. A British Columbia native, Rick began his broadcasting career in hockey after graduating from BCIT’s Broadcast Journalism program, where from 1995 to 2000 he lent his voice to the WHL's Kelowna Rockets games. Five years later, Ball was called up to the big leagues to do play-by-play with the Vancouver Canucks during their stint on VTV.
Ball’s love of the game began during his youth, as he grew up playing minor football in the Okanagan. A lifelong fan of the Black and Orange, Rick's first jersey was Jim Young’s number 30 and his first book was Dirty 30 by Jim Taylor. Ball eventually shifted roles from player to coach, winning the Interior championship in each of the four consecutive seasons he coached minor football in Kelowna, British Columbia. Ball and his wife Carole are proud parents of a daughter, Gracie.
Giulio Caravatta
Colour
A native of Etobicoke, Ontario, Giulio Caravatta moved to British Columbia to play football for the Simon Fraser University Clansmen in 1986 where he spent five seasons quarterbacking the team in addition to taking on kicking duties. After completing his college career in 1990, Caravatta was signed by the BC Lions as a free agent in 1991, going on to spend the next eight seasons with the Lions as a backup quarterback and backup punter.
In 1994, Caravatta was a member of the championship-winning Lions team that went on to win their third Grey Cup in franchise history. He spent four more years with the club before retiring in 1998 to become a firefighter with the West Vancouver Fire and Rescue Unit as well as CKNW’s host of the Lions’ pre-game and post-game shows. Caravatta began his career as the Lions’ colourman during the 2000 season and was joined in the broadcast booth by Lions play-by-play man Rick Ball in 2004. Now entering his eleventh season in his current role, Caravatta resides in Coquitlam with his wife, Linda and their daughters, Jessica and Sarah.
