Deon was signed as a free agent by the Lions on October 3, 2016 during the CFL’s annual practice roster expansion period. He re-signed with the club in January 2017.
2015-2016: Deon was an undrafted free agent signing of the Tennessee Titans in May 2015. He attended training camp with the club and a was later released.
He was signed by the Miami Dolphins in September that year but was released after a week on the club’s practice roster. He was signed by the then St. Louis Rams to their practice in December 2015 and attended training camp with the team in August 2016 before being released. He spent two more weeks of training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles before coming to the Lions.
2009-2014: Deon spent two years at Maryland (2013, 2014) appearing in 20 games for the Terrapins hauling in 83 receptions for 1,064 yards and three touchdowns.
Prior to his time in Maryland, he began his college career at West Virginia in 2010. After not seeing game action as a freshman, he transferred to the University of New Mexico, but had to sit out the 2011 season.
While with the Lobos, he tied for the team lead with 47 receptions and led the Lobos with 809 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions, earning Second Team All-Mountain West Conference honors. One year before ending up at Maryland, Deon transferred to Iowa Western in 2012 helping lead the school to a national championship with an impressive 100 catches for 1,626 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns.
Deon lives just outside of his hometown of Washington, DC and not far from the University of Maryland where he focused on Communications and American Studies. In addition to his accomplishments on the gridiron while at New Mexico, Deon also competed with the school’s track and field team. He lists Gucci Mane as his favourite musical artist and does a little singing and rapping of his own.
