2013:  Kirby signed with the Lions after being selected seventh overall in the 2012 Canadian Draft. He enjoyed an outstanding training camp and made the club’s starting lineup for the season-opener in his hometown of Calgary and continued his fine play as a key cog on the offensive line through the season’s first five games. In Toronto on Jul 30/13, he suffered a season-ending knee injury and spent the final 13 games plus the Western Semi-Final on the club’s injured list.

College:
2008-2012: Kirby redshirted the 2008 season in Calgary and did not see game action for the Dinos but did play for Team Canada at the IFAF World Junior Championship in Canton, Ontario, where Canada won silver. In 2009, he started every game at right tackle for Calgary, including playoff games, the Uteck Bowl and the Vanier Cup. He was named a Canada West All-Star and a second team All-Canadian.

In 2010, he again played the entire season for the Dinos, including the Hardy Cup, Mitchell Bowl and Vanier Cup. Kirby earned a Canada West All-Star selection in 2011 after the Dinos defended their Hardy Cup title as Canada West Champs. Following his selection by the Lions in the 2012 CFL Draft, he elected to remain in school and after another standout campaign in 2012, he earned the Dinos’ nominee for the J.P. Metras Award as the outstanding lineman in the CIS. He also garnered Canada West All-Star status for the second year in a row and the third time in four seasons. Kirby was also invited to play in the prestigious East-West Shrine Game.

Personal:
Kirby was born and raised in Calgary and graduated from Bishop McNally High School. He lists his mom as his biggest fan, and his favourite football memory as winning the Hardy Cup in 2009 with the University of Calgary. When he’s not on the field, Kirby likes to play NBA 2K13 or hit the hard court himself. A fan of hip-hop music, Kirby also enjoys sitting down to episodes of My Wife and Kids and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
