Lions add Derick Armstrong to receiving corps; sign Duckett

Two-time CFL All-Star Derick Armstrong joined the Black and Orange on Thursday morning

The BC Lions Football Club announced today that veteran import wide receiver Derick Armstrong and import offensive tackle Damane Duckett have signed with team. In keeping with club policy, terms of each deal were not released.

Armstrong, who broke into the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2001, was a CFL All-Star in 2002 before moving on to play for three seasons with the NFL’s Houston Texans. The Jasper, Texas native returned to the CFL in 2006 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and recorded back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2007 and 2008 as well as another CFL All-Star selection in 2007. In total, Armstrong has recorded 289 receptions for 3,994 yards and 20 TD’s.

Derick is an explosive receiver who can play multiple positions and adds a veteran presence,” said Lions offensive coordinator Jacques Chapdelaine. “I look forward to seeing what he can bring to our offence.”

Duckett joined the Lions in September last year and impressed coaches with his size and agility. After entering the NFL as a defensive lineman with the Carolina Panthers in 2004, he eventually made stops with the  New York Giants and the San Francisco 49’ers before coming to the Lions. It was with the 49’ers that Duckett moved to offensive line to take advantage of his 6’6″, 329-pound frame.
