Lions director of communications Jamie Cartmell sat down with defensive coordinator Mike Benevides to chat about CFL Evaluation Camp in Toronto in the first installment of this season’s Roar Room interview series.

From March 4th through 6th, the league’s top talent-finders including general managers, head coaches and scouts gather to evaluate Canada’s top college football players in advance of the 2011 Canadian Draft on Sunday, May 8th.

With the assistance of Benevides, player personnel coordinator Neil McEvoy and defensive assistant Barron Miles, Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono will assess the performance and personality of a select list of homegrown talent.  Over the course of the three-day camp, various aspects of each player’s physical ability are scrutinized in addition to a formal interview process that may increase their chances of being selected come draft day.
