The BC Lions Football Club announced today that defensive line coach Randy Melvin has been added to the team’s staff.

Melvin brings a long and successful coaching resume to his position with the Lions and was most recently on the staff at Rutgers University in 2010. A native of Aurora, Illinois and a graduate of Eastern Illinois, Melvin was dominant player himself  and earned AP All-America recognition (Division II) in 1979 and 1980. He also earned his master’s degree from the school in 1993 and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 1995.

“Randy has outstanding credentials and will bring experience, success and leadership to his role as defensive line coach,” said Leos defensive coordinator Mike Benevides. “From our first meeting I knew he would be the perfect candidate to lead the defensive line which is a mix of experience and youth.”

As a college coach he has made stops in Wyoming and Eastern Illinois as well as Rutgers and his NFL resume includes stops in Denver, New York, Cleveland and New England where he won a Super Bowl in 2001.
