The BC Lions Football Club announced today that import defensive back Byron Parker and running back Stu Foord have agreed to terms on a contracts with the team.

“Byron is a very gifted defensive player,” said VP of football operations and GM Wally Buono. “He has a lot of experience in our league and he’s another great signing for us heading into 2012.

On Stu Foord: “Stu is a capable running back who can provide us with some depth behind Andrew Harris as well as on special teams. We’ve been aware of his ability for some time and this is very good addition.”

Parker is a three-time CFL All-Star including last season when appeared in all 18 games for the Toronto Argonauts notching a career-high 50 tackles to go along with five interceptions. The seven-year CFL veteran has appeared in 94 career games and is the league’s all-time leader in interceptions returned for touchdowns with nine.

Foord has appeared in 71 games over four seasons with Saskatchewan (2008-2011) after a standout junior career with the Regina Thunder. Seeing time primarily on special teams, the versatile running back and return man has totaled 312 rushing yards on 56 career carries to go along with 122 yards on 12 receptions as well as 566 yards on 33 kickoff returns.

“I have always respected the tenacity of Stu Foord,” said head coach Mike Benevides. “He’s a durable guy that refuses to quit and does everything that is asked of him. I’m very pleased to have him part of our club.”

On Byron Parker: “In a secondary full of playmakers I’m very pleased to make room for one more. Byron will not only fit into what we will be doing on defence, he’ll be another veteran presence in our dressing room.”
