The BC Lions Football Club announced today that defensive coordinator Rich Stubler will not be offered a contract extension for the 2014 season.
“I’m grateful for Rich’s contributions to our organization as well his personal assistance over the past two seasons and on behalf of our club, I wish him the very best in the future,” said head coach Mike Benevides.
Stubler had recently finished his second year as the team’s defensive coordinator after returning to the BC Lions in 2012 following stints with the club in 2000 and 2010.
“We’ll immediately begin the process of filling the defensive coordinator postion as we have with the offensive coordinator spot and I am confident that we will have an outstanding staff heading into the 2014 season. Making these kinds of decisions now allows us to speak to a number of qualified candidates and it also affords these gentlemen the time to pursue other opportunites.”
The Lions announced on November 27th that they reached a mutual decision to part ways with offensive coordinator Jacques Chapdelaine.
“Both Jacques and Rich are outstanding coaches that will very likely remain in our league, but I believe that we need to move in a new direction on both sides of the ball. We have one goal each season and that is to win a championship for our fans. That goal has not been reached over the past two years and we need to make the kinds of changes that will put us on the path to a Grey Cup.”
