Cam Wake to headline 2016 Orange Helmet Awards

(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club is pleased to announce that former BC Lions Most Outstanding Defensive Player Cam Wake will be the featured guest at the 2016 Orange Helmet Awards slated for the evening of Thursday, April 7 at the Westin Bay Shore presented by Coast Capital Savings.

Cam was one of the most dominant and gifted players to ever play for the BC Lions and hes gone on to achieve great things in the NFL,” said director of community relations, Jamie Taras. “He has an amazing story to tell of determination, hard work and perseverance.”

Wake
returns to Vancouver for this year’s Orange Helmet Awards after producing two of the most incredible defensive seasons in the history of the CFL in 2007 and 2008. Beginning with his first game as a pro in 2007 when he notched three sacks, Wake took the league by storm and earned Most Outstanding Rookie honours as well as back-to-back Outstanding Defensive Player awards before taking his talents to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins in 2009.

My time in BC and in the CFL remains very close to my heart,” says Wake. “Im very much looking forward to returning to my second home and being a part of the Orange Helmet Awards this year.”

Now in its 13th year and having raised more than $750,000, the Orange Helmet Awards dinner is a marquee event on the BC Lions calendar. Proceeds from the night support amateur football in the province of British Columbia and honour champions at all levels from last season.

Items available for auction include a football signed by members of the 2011 Grey Cup championship team, signed jerseys and a chance to win a trip on the Lions team charter for a road game in 2016.

Created by Lions late president and CEO Bob Ackles, the awards also recognize pioneers of the sport in our province, outstanding coaches and those who have spent years in support of grassroots football development.
