Christmas Quotables: Favourite Songs

Tis’ the season! One of the most enjoyable things about the holidays is turning on your radio, iPhone or television and revelling in some of the all-time classic Christmas songs. Who doesn’t remember being a kid and getting to perform them at school or having them blaring while you open your gifts on Christmas morning? Members of your BC Lions are still kids at heart and a few of them perked up big time when we asked them to share some of their all-time favourite Christmas music.

Travis Lulay

“THE Christmas Song. Merry Christmas. The chestnuts roasting on an open fire one, you know what I am talking about. It just makes you want to sit down with the family, fireplace on, hot cocoa that sort of thing. I also sing to my girls before bedtime. They’ve adopted that song. It beats Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman. I was singing and listening to ‘Under the Mistletoe’ by Justin Bieber until I realized who it was (laughs). We also enjoy a little Penatonix, the a cappella band. So it’s a bit of a variety.”

Eric Fraser

“I don’t know about a favourite but a lot of people talk about the Justin Bieber Christmas CD. Growing up, my sister had the Mariah Carey CD so that one was always on around Christmas time. I think it’s probably one of the best Christmas albums around and I still enjoy listening to it. She’s got a really good voice and it’s well done.”

Silent Night. The purity of that song makes me realize the holidays are about the union of family as well as the laughs, jokes and tears. It’s special because whoever is close to you at that moment are usually who you spend those times with.

I have to go with O Holy Night. It is an emotional song that reminds me of the midnight mass many of us have intended as a family. The song just makes me so thankful for those moments because like everyone else, the Christmas season makes me feel thankful for my family that has supported me in my career and in life.

Everyone has a story about why they love their Christmas music. Hearing our favourite songs no doubt brings joy to our loved ones and us this time of the year. Be sure to head to BCLions.com on Friday when our Christmas Quotables series continues. We ask members of the club about their all-time favourite Christmas foods!
