Geroy Simon to be inducted into Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2017

The BC Lions Football Club is pleased to announce that legendary receiver Geroy Simon will be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in September.

“I’m both grateful and tremendously proud to be selected by the Canadian Football Hall of Fame for this incredible honour,” said Simon. “Receiving the call from CFL Commissioner Orridge a short time ago will be one of the fondest memories of my football career. I was extremely fortunate to take the field with some of the best players in the history of our amazing league and my thanks go out to them along with my former coaches.”

Simon, the CFL’s all-time leading receiver with 16,352 yards, 14,756 of which came as a Lion between 2001 and 2012 joins recent inductees Wally Buono and Dave Dickenson from the club’s decade of dominance during which it appeared in three Grey Cup championships, winning twice.

In addition to Grey Cup titles with the Leos in 2006 and 2011, Simon was selected as the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in 2006 and holds the club’s all-time franchise marks for receiving yards, receptions and touchdowns.

“Geroy was a special player who played a significant role in the success of our organization for many years,” said Lions’ GM and head coach Wally Buono. “He was an incredible talent on the field who left an indelible mark on our league and I am proud to offer him sincere congratulations on behalf of our club.”

Simon and the rest of the 2017 class, will celebrate Hall of Fame weekend in Hamilton in mid-September.
