Lions To Hold Training Camp In Kamloops Through 2020

The BC Lions Football Club is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with the City of Kamloops along with Thompson Rivers University to hold training camp in Canada’s Tournament Capital through 2020.

“The combination of outstanding facilities and community support makes our decision to remain in Kamloops a very easy one,” said Lions’ VP, Business George Chayka. “The relationships we have built in Kamloops over the past eight years with fans and local businesses have created a model for other CFL teams looking to partner with a community for training camp and we’re thrilled to be back for three more years.”

The club has been staging training camp in Kamloops for the past eight consecutive years and has come to depend on the top-notch accommodations provided by Thompson Rivers University and the incredibly functional Tournament Capital Centre including Hillside Stadium to set the stage for each CFL regular season.

“When it comes to the combination of facilities, community support and climate, there is no comparison to being in Kamloops each June,” said VP of football operations, GM and head coach Wally Buono. “It’s an outstanding experience for our players and coaches each year and I am extremely pleased to know we will be coming back for the next three training camps.”

“We have enjoyed a long relationship with the BC Lions Football Club and their training camp has become an annual event that the community looks forward to,” said Byron McCorkell, City of Kamloops’ Director of Parks, Recreation, and Culture. “We are proud to welcome them back to Canada’s Tournament Capital.”
