The BC Lions Football Club today announced that former team psychologist Dr. Frank Lodato has announced his retirement.
A career which dates back more than three decades in the CFL, Dr. Frank was an integral part of Lions Grey Cup teams in 2006 and 2011.
“Frank wasn’t just an outstanding support system for many of our players, he was often times a steadying influence over my own approach to coaching and mentoring players,” said former GM and head coach Wally Buono who originally brought Lodato onto his staff in Calgary in 1983. “I know anyone who ever had the chance to talk with Frank benefitted from his expertise and we wish him the best in retirement.”
Also renowned in NHL circles, the Brooklyn, NY native had strong ties to the Los Angeles Kings and the 2011 Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins in addition to his work with the Calgary Stampeders and Lions.
Added Buono in a team meeting with players prior to a game in Ottawa with Dr. Frank present in 2016:
“Frank has been my secret weapon for over 30 years. “He has been a renowned sports psychologist and for us, he has always been a tremendous asset”

His comforting and insightful discussion was of incredible value to me and I’m grateful for his time and counsel.”
