BC Lions running back Zander Horvath was named the Canadian Football League Player of the Week on Wednesday, following an outstanding performance in the Lions’ 35-19 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to kick off week nine.
Horvath was chosen by members of the CFL’s football operations, player and game statistics and content departments.
The big back rushed for a career-high 191 yards on 17 carries and scored three touchdowns, with 165 of those yards and two of the majors; 58 and 35 yards, respectively, coming in a fourth quarter where the Lions racked up 25 points in the comeback win. As a team, the Lions rushed for a franchise-record 377 yards to break the previous mark that stood since 1969.
It was the first multi-touchdown game of Horvath’s career on a night where he had five 10+-yard runs and three 20+-yard efforts.
