The BC Lions selected Carl in round one (6th overall) of the 2024 CFL Global Draft. After finishing his rookie season on the practice roster, Carl re-signed with the team on November 18, 2024.

Highlights:

2025: Carl became the Lions’ primary punter and kickoff man in 2025 and ended the regular season third overall in the CFL with a net average of 38.7 yards per punt. He finished with a total of 84 punts for 4,120 yards (49.0-yard average) and pinned the opponents inside the ten-yard line on eight occasions. Carl also had 78 kickoffs for 4,995 yards (64.0-yard average).

2024: Emerged from his first CFL training camp with a spot on the practice roster. Carl was promoted to the active roster for the Touchdown Pacific win over Ottawa on August 31 in Victoria and recorded four punts for 52 yards (43.2-yard average).

2023: Carl, the South African athlete with professional rugby experience got his footing in American football by playing arena football with the Jacksonville Sharks, as a punter and placekicker.

2019: Carl signed a three-year contract with the New Orleans Gold of Major League Rugby. The South African rugby fullback for the Gold was responsible for the kicking duty.

2014-18: Carl spent four seasons with the prominent Newport Dragons Rugby Football Club based in Wales. Carl scored a total of 75 points for the Dragons, including 11 tries, six successful penalty kicks and one try-conversion.
