Charles was selected by the Lions in the first round, fifth overall in the 2016 CFL Draft.
2016: Earning a starting spot at right guard coming out of training camp, Charles made his Lions and CFL debut in Week 1, but was sidelined for five weeks after the second regular season game. He would eventually see action in 13 games including the final 11 as a sixth offensive lineman. He also dressed for both of the club’s postseason games.
2012-2015: Charles enjoyed a remarkable career at Laval where he played in 30 games, all starts. The hulking lineman who saw action at both guard and centre was a three-time All-Canadian after a freshman season that saw him earn a Second Team All-CIS selection in 2012. After another standout season in 2015, Charles was selected to play in the prestigious East-West Shrine Game.
Charles was a Business Administration major at Laval and recalls the school’s 2012 Vanier Cup championship as his biggest football memory to date. He’s a big fan of former Montreal Alouettes offensive lineman Brian Chiu and has modeled his game after the BC native. If Charles wasn’t playing football he would work for his family business back home, as they own a Christmas Tree production company. When Charles isn’t on the field, he enjoys playing hockey and spending time with his family, friends and girlfriend. Charles doesn’t think twice when asked about his biggest fans and immediately talks about his mom and dad.
