Jonathan signed with the Lions as a free agent on May 21, 2023.

Highlights:

2022: Jonathan moved back south to join the Denver Broncos and saw action in three regular season contests while spending the majority of the season on the practice squad.

2021: Returned to the Blue Bombers in June and went on to suit up in all 14 regular season contests, racking up 16 defensive tackles plus three sacks. He made a big impact in the Western Final victory over Saskatchewan with three defensive stops and one sack before earning a second championship ring when the Bombers took down Hamilton in the 108th Grey Cup.

2020: Released from his contract with the Bombers for an opportunity to sign with the San Francisco 49ers in January. Kongbo was released with an injury settlement at the conclusion of training camp.

2019: Jonathan was selected in round one (fifth overall) by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in May’s CFL Draft. He recovered from his knee injury to make his Bomber debut in August of his rookie season and went on to record 14 defensive tackles and a pair of sacks across 12 regular season games. After making his playoff debut in Calgary for the Western Semi-Final, Jonathan recorded two defensive tackles and a sack in the Western Final win at Saskatchewan before helping the Bombers defeat Hamilton in the 107th Grey Cup.

College:

2016-18: Moved to the University of Tennessee and would appear in 30 games with the Volunteers. Recorded 51 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, a pair of interceptions and one defensive touchdown.

2015: Transferred to Arizona Western College and registered 55 defensive tackles and 11 sacks in 11 total contests.

2014: Committed to the University of Wyoming and sat out his first season as a redshirt.

Personal:

Born in Zaire, Jonathan moved with his family to Canada at the age of five. He was a basketball standout at Kitsilano Secondary before moving to Holy Cross for his grade 12 year and suiting up with the Crusaders’ football team.
