Markcus was drafted by the BC Lions in round four (34th overall) in the 2023 CFL Draft.
Highlights:
Prior to the 2023 CFL Draft, Jean-Loescher was invited to participate in the 2022 East-West Bowl and the 2023 CFL Combine.
College:
2022: In his most recent season at Saint Mary’s University, MJL recorded 21.5 total tackles, 18 coming unassisted. The defensive specialist added a broken-up pass, a forced fumble, one sack, and three tackles for a loss of 17 yards in the six games he suited up in.
2021: In the first season since the COVID-19 hiatus, the linebacker played in four games for the Saint Mary’s Huskies, registering one sack on the year to go along with his 14 solo tackles for 16 total.
2019: Â In his first year of college football, MJL put up an impressive 25 solo tackles, and 11 assisted. Adding two tackles for a loss of 22 yards, the arts student earned 2020 U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian honours.
Personal:
Markcus is the son of former defensive lineman Nautyn McKay-Loesher who was selected in round two (12th overall) by the Lions in the 2004 CFL Draft and would go on to win a Grey Cup with the Leos in 2006. Markcus is of Oji-Cree descent, with his family hailing from Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation near Big Trout Lake in Northern Ontario.
