Matt was signed as a free agent by the Lions on February 16, 2017.
2012-2016: Matt was originally signed by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as a free agent out of the University of Windsor in 2012 and appeared in 27 games over two seasons for the Ticats as well as the 2013 Grey Cup. He was traded by Hamilton to Winnipeg on Jan. 29, 2014, in exchange for the rights to receiver Giovanni Aprile. The hard-hitting defensive back started in all 36 of his regular season appearances for the ‘Bombers in 2014 and 2015, recording 104 tackles.
Following his release by Winnipeg just prior to the 2016 season , he was signed by the Calgary Stampeders. He played in four regular season games for the Stamps as well as the 2016 Grey Cup. Through five seasons and 67 games, Matt has recorded 150 defensive stops and three interceptions.
2006-2010: Bucknor played five seasons at the University of Windsor tallying 121 career tackles for the Lancers and adding 12 interceptions, including two interception-return touchdowns and two forced fumbles. He recorded 32 tackles and six interceptions during his senior season.
Matt majored in Sociology and minored in Psychology at the University of Windsor. He is a big fan of stand-up comedy and cites Kevin Hart as his favourite comedian. Matt lists hip-hop, R&B and reggae as his favourite genres of music to listen to. He spends his off-seasons in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario and says that getting signed as an undrafted free agent by the Ticats in 2012 is his most memorable football moment. Matt can always look to his mom for support, as she is his biggest fan. Matt enjoys doing community work and you can often find him volunteering at local events. If he wasn’t playing professional football, Matt would like to work as a broadcaster.
