Training Camp Report Day 8

Training Camp Day 8: June 5

Kamloops – It’s starting to feel like the start of football season as temperatures creeped to as high as 35 degrees celsius Sunday at Hillside Stadium. Lions players had the morning off following Saturday’s Fan Fest activities and opted to go without pads for the afternoon practice. It started with some individual drills, followed by no huddle and the usual “skelly’ and back to back team drills to finish things off. Wally Buono emphasized to his players that they have four big days of practice to show their stuff, followed by a Friday walkthrough and next Saturday’s preseason opener in Saskatchewan.

Manny Arceneaux and Nic Moore continue to lead the way on the receiving corps. Arceneaux hauled in a pair of long touchdown passes in team play, while Moore’s route running and catching ability are still turning heads. Brett Blaszko followed up his stellar mock game performance with a couple of nice grabs and even took a few snaps with the first-team offence towards the end. In the backfield, Jeremiah Johnson was again a duel threat with his running and pass catching ability.

On defence, Darius Allen showed some good pursuit at defensive end. The secondary battles will be very interesting to watch this week as Loucheiz Purifoy and Chandler Fenner both made plays. Newly signed defensive back Royce Adams had probably his best day of practice.
