Be More Than a Bystander is a groundbreaking initiative between the Ending Violence Association of British Columbia (EVA BC) and the BC Lions aimed at increasing the understanding regarding the impact of gender-based violence.

The program will break the silence surrounding gender-based violence by providing tools, language and practical ideas about how to be more than a bystander, how to speak up and how to communicate that violence and abuse is not acceptable. Presenting partners include the Province of British Columbia, Teck Resources and BC Maritime Employers Association. The program is also supported by the BC Federation of Labour.

KEY PROGRAM COMPONENTS

PROMOTION AND AWARENESS
The Be More Than a Bystander program delivers gender-based violence messaging through a variety of mediums including Sideline Tent Signage, PSAs on video and radio during Lions games as well as LED, concourse screens, game-day program ads etc.

SCHOOL PROGRAM
Virtual school presentations are led by two BC Lions players to classrooms in schools all over BC for students grades 8 through 12. The program focuses on the importance of creating a safe environment in the school for young men and women, what it means to be more than a bystander and how students can initiate change. EVA BC coordinates the attendance of local anti-violence program workers for each session to ensure students have someone to speak to should they need or want to. We also provide information for the schools regarding support services in their area.

PUBLIC APPEARANCES
The BC Lions and EVA BC work together to facilitate a variety of public appearances where our players seek to engage other men as allies
