Training Camp Report: Day 12

Training Camp Day 12: June 9

Kamloops – BC Lions players were on the field for a morning session only on Thursday at Hillside Stadium. It was the final full practice before Saturday’s pre-season tilt in Saskatchewan. Wally Buono told his troops they would finalize the roster sometime this evening before releasing it on Friday. Practice included more piped in crowd noise, particularly during special teams and hurry up offence. With a crowd of around 25,000 expected at Mosaic Stadium for the pre-season game, it is never too early to start simulating those type of game situations. There was also extra emphasis on the running game during team drills.

WHO STOOD OUT:

The offence improved following Wednesday’s afternoon setbacks. Devonn Brown made the two longest catches of the day, one of them a nice td pass from Greg McGhee. Stephen Adeklou made one of the morning’s nicer catches between two defenders during two-on-two sessions. From the highlight reel collection, Shaq Johnson leaped and made a nice grab from Michael O’Connor in the final team session of the morning. With plenty of running plays on day 12, Jeremiah Johnson, JC Coleman, and Chris R83 Adekolu Stephen about to catchainey took advantage of some fine work by the offensive line. Anthony Allen did not participate due to injury, but hopes to be ready on Saturday.

On defence, Maxx Forde had one of the bigger plays with a knockdown at the line during team play. The secondary was in its usual fine form with Loucheiz Puriofy and Ronnie Yell standing out. Brandon Stewart was making life difficult for the receivers in two-on-twos.

OTHER TIDBITS

Auston Johnson has returned to his regular position of linebacker after working with the fullbacks since veterans reported on May29th. He has also switched back to jersey number 77, which he wore during mini-camp.

QUOTES OF NOTE:

“You got 4 quarterbacks you got 4 quarters. They have to get a feel for what will be expected of them. Khari will have a plan and we’ll be good with it.”- Buono on dividing the QB time in Regina.

“I played Pac 12 ball against Oregon and they darn near invented the no huddle. It’s been an adjustment, but something I can get used to.” Rookie defensive lineman George Uko on going against the up tempo offence in practice.
