One of the CFL’s most talented and charismatic figures of the last two decades is returning north. BC Lions co-general manager/head coach Rick Campbell announced this morning that Henry Burris is joining the club’s coaching staff as offensive consultant.
“I couldn’t be more excited to begin this next chapter of my football career with a great organization,” said Burris.
“Given some of the exciting pieces we have on offence plus the chance to be re-united with coach Campbell, this is an opportunity that ticks all of the important boxes.”
“Henry is a tremendous addition to our coaching staff,” said Campbell.
“His knowledge, experience and communication skills will be a huge asset to both our quarterbacks and the entire offence.”
Burris is back in Canada following two years on the Chicago Bears staff, most recently serving as offensive quality control coach in 2021.
A member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame induction class of 2020, the former quarterback appeared in 277 regular season and 17 playoff contests split between four different teams from 1997-2016: Calgary (1997-99, 2005-11), Saskatchewan (2000, 2003-04), Hamilton (2012-13) and Ottawa (2014-16).
In between his stints with the Roughriders, Burris played for the Chicago Bears from 2001-02, completing 18 passes for 51 yards and three touchdowns in six total appearances.
The Spiro, Oklahoma native was a member of Calgary’s Grey Cup-winning team in 1998 and would earn two more rings as a starter: with the Stampeders in 2008 and the REDBLACKS in 2016, earning Grey Cup MVP for each of those performances.

- CFL passing yards leader in 2012 (5,367 yards), 2013 (4,927 yards) and 2015 (5,693 yards).
- Named CFL Most Outstanding Player in 2010 and 2015.
- A two-time CFL All-Star (2010, 2015) and four-time division all-star: Western selection in 2005, 2008 and 2010, Eastern selection in 2015.
- Appeared in two other Grey Cup games as starting QB: 2013 with Hamilton and 2015 with Ottawa.
- 2015 winner of the Tom Pate Memorial Award, given annually for outstanding sportsmanship and dedication to the community.
