CFL Grey Cup Fan Base FAQs

The illustrious championship trophy will soon be raised up by a newly designed Grey Cup Fan Base – a beautiful, multi-level podium created to commemorate thousands of the most dedicated football patrons nationwide. The Grey Cup Fan Base is the CFL’s commitment to pushing the game forward while championing the values of unity, patriotism, and inclusion for all future generations of Canadian Football. Until October 2nd, you can become a part of history by etching your name into the design podium.

GENERAL 

IS IT ONLY INDIVIDUAL NAMES ETCHED OR CAN I USE MY FAMILY’S SURNAME NAME (I.E. “THE WATSON FAMILY”)?

Family names (e.g. The Watson Family) ARE NOT PERMITTED. Only individual names will be permitted – first name and last name.

I WANT TO BE ABLE TO GIVE THIS AS A GIFT. IS THERE AN OPTION TO PARTICIPATE ON SOMEONE’S BEHALF?

Yes, we encourage fans to purchase this piece of history as a gift, or in honour or memoriam for friends and loved ones, as long as the names fit the character limit guidelines.

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE TO INVEST IN THIS PROGRAM?

The last day to invest (have your name etched) in the Grey Cup Fan Base is October 2nd, 2020.

CAN I BUY INTO A PORTION OF THE PACKAGE?

This once-in a lifetime opportunity is a one-time purchase to have your name, or the name of a loved one etched onto the Fan Base. We are not offering partial or modified options.

PAYMENT

AS A SEASON TICKET HOLDER, CAN I TRANSFER FUNDS FROM MY 2020 SEASON TICKET PLAN TO THIS PROGRAM?

YES.

CAN I COME TO THE TICKET OFFICE TO MAKE THIS PURCHASE?

No, due to social distancing protocols, we are taking orders on the phone and online only.

CAN I USE SEVERAL FORMS OF PAYMENT, SUCH AS PART OF AN ACCOUNT CREDIT AND VISA?

We recommend a one-time payment, but it is possible to use previous account credits

IF I DO NOT HAVE SEASON TICKETS, BUT HAVE AN ACCOUNT CREDIT FROM TICKETS I RESOLD OR A PAST PLAYOFF GAME CREDIT, CAN I USE THAT FOR THE FAN BASE?

For non season ticket holders, account credits cannot be used for purchase. Please contact your local team sales rep for further assistance.

I HAVE A GIFT CARD FOR MY TEAM. CAN I USE IT FOR PAYMENT ON THIS PURCHASE?

Team gift cards are NOT accepted as payment for the Grey Cup Fan Base. We encourage you to use your gift cards at team shops.

IS THERE A PAYMENT PLAN AVAILABLE FOR THE GREY CUP FAN BASE?

We do not offer payment plans. This is a one-time purchase commitment.

BASE

WILL I BE ABLE TO SEE A RENDITION OF THE BASE BEFORE I INVEST?

We will begin constructing the Grey Cup Fan Base after the October 2nd, 2020 purchase deadline. Purchasers will receive a unique link to view a digital representation of your name on the Cup shortly after your purchase. The Fan Base will be unveiled publicly in late fall, 2020.

WHAT IS THE SIZE OF THE BASE?

The exact specifications of the Grey Cup Fan Base are 48 inches tall by 40 inches wide.

WHAT IS THE BASE MADE OF?

The Grey Cup Fan Base will be Canadian produced and constructed from illustrious etched aluminum and rich, dark stained Canadian wood.

HOW BIG WILL MY NAME APPEAR ON IT (COMPARED TO THE NAME ON THE GREY CUP)?

The names will be legible and easy to find; we will confirm exact font size once the etching process begins.

WHEN IT COMES TO NAME PLACEMENT ON
THE BASE, IS IT FIRST COME FIRST SERVE OR WILL IT BE POSITIONED IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER?

All names will appear on the Fan Base in alphabetical order, by last name.

CAN I BE PLACED NEXT TO A FRIEND/FAMILY MEMBER?

If you have the same last name, we can place family names alongside one another. These names must be made within the same purchase, or by special request to info@greycupfanbase.ca. Otherwise, name placement on the Grey Cup Fan Base will be alphabetical by last name.

IF SOMEONE PURCHASES A NAME IN SOMEONE’S MEMORY DOES IT ACTUALLY SHOW UP AS “IN MEMORY OF”

Names of those who are being recognized posthumously will be italicized on the Fan Base.

WILL THE NAMES BE ENGRAVED OR PRINTED?

All names will be etched onto the aluminum of the Fan Base.

CAN I HAVE MULTIPLE NAMES ETCHED ON THE BASE?

Yes. One of the purchase options is that you and your spouse/family members can purchase an “initial” placement on the Grey Cup Fan Base for $349 (Season Ticket Holder) or $399 (non-Season Ticket Holder), which will grant you space for 2 initials (with 1 last name). As an example, this will appear as “J & J Smith”.

DOES THE NAME HAVE TO BE IN ENGLISH OR CAN IT BE IN OTHER LANGUAGES?

All the names on the Grey Cup Fan Base will appear in English or French.

WHERE/WHEN WILL THE BASE BE USED?

The Grey Cup Fan Base will appear at all CFL major events during Grey Cup Week, most notably including the Grey Cup Trophy Ceremony following the Grey Cup game.

When not touring or making appearances, the Fan Base will be displayed in the CFL Hall of Fame.

HOW OFTEN WILL IT BE IN MY LOCAL MARKET?

It can be rented from the Canadian Football Hall of Fame at any time for local appearances for a fee of $500 plus applicable shipping.

IF I CHANGE MY MIND CAN I HAVE MY NAME REMOVED?

Placements are permanent. Once the name placement is etched, it cannot be removed.

DIGITAL CERTIFICATE

CAN I RECEIVE A HARD COPY?

No. You will be given the option to save your personalized certificate as a printable PDF.

CAN I PUT SOMEONE ELSE’S NAME ON THE CERTIFICATE?

Yes, you can input anyone’s name so long that it is appropriate and falls within set parameters.

MY CERTIFICATE HAS MISSPELLED MY NAME AND/OR MY CERTIFICATE IS NOT IN MY TEAM’S COLOURS. IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET A NEW ONE?

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE THE CERTIFICATE?

You will receive your personalized certificate electronically, within two weeks of purchase.

CAN I GET MY CERTIFICATE IN EITHER FRENCH OR ENGLISH?

Certificates are produced in English unless otherwise specified. French can be selected in the purchase process.
