Receivers Shine in Saturday’s Live Scrimmage

Highlight reel catches and a steady pass rush were the main headlines from Saturday night’s live scrimmage at Hillside Stadium. 3rd string quarterback Alex ross hit Rookie receiver Maurice Morgan late in the second half to seal a 23-15 win for “Team Buono” over “Team Wally.” The result left many fans and observers salivating at the club’s depth going into 2017.

Shaq Johnson and Douglas McNeil got the ball rolling with first half touchdown catches from Travis Lulay. Jonathon Jennings and “Team Wally” recovered from a slow start to make things close in the second half.

Bryan Burnham and Jeremiah Johnson found the end zone to pull them to within two points before the Morgan dagger. Solomon Elimimian had the game’s lone turnover on an intercepted ball that was tipped at the line of scrimmage.

Other standouts on defence included DeQuin Evans, Mic’hael Brooks, Craig Roh and Matt Bucknor. First round pick Junior Luke also impressed in various packages.

If there is one constant theme about this camp, it is the fact this crop of defensive linemen remains very stout. And that is saying something when you consider the likes of Frank Alexander, Luther Maddy, Ken Boatright and Dylan Ainsworth have been injured.

The Lions will be back on the practice field at 3:30PM Sunday.
